Wax Carving

Wax Carving & Casting Workshop – An Introduction to the Process
Wax carving is an ancient and versatile jewellery-making technique that gives you the freedom to shape and sculpt your own designs by hand. Using a special jeweller’s wax, you’ll learn how to carve your piece — often a ring or pendant — using simple tools to add texture, form, and detail.
Once your wax model is complete, it will be cast into metal through one of two traditional methods. The lost wax casting process involves encasing your wax in a heat-resistant plaster. The wax is melted away, and molten metal is poured into the hollow mould, capturing even the finest details of your carving.
Alternatively, your design may be sandcast – a process where the wax is pressed into sand to create a mould, then filled with molten metal. This technique leaves a beautifully organic, textured surface unique to each piece.
In this hands-on workshop, you'll explore these ancient processes from a modern, creative perspective – learning the tools, techniques, and steps involved in turning an idea into a one-of-a-kind piece of jewellery.
Whether you’re completely new to jewellery making or just curious about the craft, this workshop is a chance to slow down, get creative, and walk away with something truly personal.
